Programme Highlights
Universal Design, or Design for All has received attention since the turn of the century in
Hong Kong. It is no longer an ideal in design but is becoming essential for a society that
values human rights and respects the ageing community. Universal Design has been
adopted in Public Housing, transportations, public buildings. but what about our built
heritage, which Hong Kong people have been awaken for conservation after the incidents of
the Star Ferry, Queens Pier and the King Yin Lane mansion? These built heritages shall also
be enjoyed by all in disregard of people's physical abilities. In the adaptive reuse, what shall
we consider to convert these built heritages to be architecture for all? The talk will provide
some food for thoughts on the topic.
