Programme Highlights
Friction piled foundation (driven steel H-pile, precast concrete pile) is not uncommon in HK building construction. However, application of replacement pile types (barrettes and large diameter bored piles) as friction piled foundation, is not given due attention. In practice, friction replacement piles have been used quite extensively in HK, mainly in a number of highways projects as well as in some landmark building projects. The speaker will give a brief account of the friction barrette on its development, construction method, limitations and recent advancement, with particular emphasis on shaft-grouted enhancement for improving skin friction performance.
